My name is Beaver VFX Breakdown

My Name Is Beaver is an independent documentary film shot in Montreal that follows a local artist by the pseudonym Beaver as he navigates his career as an artist in a changing world. The task for this shot was to develop a hyperbolic, imaginary sequence in which Beaver is describing the industrial evolution of a city he feels he is losing a connection to. The workflow for this shot began with creating mockup city concepts for the director, which involved modeling and texturing extensive building assets, defining the animation style, and establishing a cohesive compositional aesthetic. Once the raw footage was received, the camera was tracked and I reconstructed the city to align with the sequence. I then rendered foreground, midground, and background layers, in preperation for compositing in After Effects. After incorporating feedback through multiple iterations, the composite was finalized and handed off to the colorist, who applied the final look and color grade. To illustrate the process, I created this breakdown, detailing the compositing workflow step by step.
